Thematic
Thematic is a free-to-start platform where independent artists offer their songs to creators. You connect your YouTube channel and paste a per-song license link into each description, which keeps Content ID from claiming you. Paid plans unlock the full catalog and more channels.
TL;DR
YouTubers and short-form creators who want free, real-artist music and don't mind pasting a license link into every description. Where you can use it: Twitch unconfirmed, YouTube safe with steps, TikTok safe with steps, Instagram safe with steps, Kick not allowed. You must credit it.
Where is Thematic safe to use?
Based on Thematic's own license terms, checked October 2026. “Copyright-free” on one platform doesn't mean safe everywhere, so we check each one.

| Instagram Reels & Live | Safe with steps Reels, Stories and feed are covered. Put the license link in the caption. Instagram Live isn't mentioned. |
| Kick | Not allowed Kick isn't on the license's platform list (Schedule A), and the agreement bans use on any platform not listed. |

How to credit Thematic
Copy the song's unique Thematic license link into the description of every video that uses it (or the caption on TikTok/Instagram). Don't shorten or edit it, because the link is what activates your license and stops Content ID claims. Thematic gives no Twitch-specific instructions.
Content ID, claims, and VOD mutes
Yes. Songs are registered with YouTube Content ID. The license link in your description plus your connected channel prevents claims. If you post without the link, Thematic emails reminders and may then claim the video. If you add the link after a claim, contact support to release it.
Not sure how claims, strikes, and mutes differ? Read our DMCA guide.
Watch out for
- Songs can 'expire' (the artist leaves). After the expiry date you can't put them in new videos
- Premium songs can't go in new videos after you cancel; old videos with license links stay safe
- The Creator Agreement says free accounts are YouTube-only, which contradicts the help center
- Kick isn't covered at all
- No audio-only uploads, lyric videos or visualizers
- Free plan uses points, so you can't download unlimited songs
